Darrion compares his personal story to the Brady Bunch theme song, mainly
because he, too, comes from a blended family. However, unlike the Bradys,
Darrion has not yet found a catchy jingle to explain his family history,
so he hopes this bio will do the trick (plus, you really do not want to
hear him try to hold a tune).
In Darrion’s blended family, he is the oldest of seven siblings.
As the product of his parents’ high school romance, Darrion was
very much an “oops” baby (although he constantly reminds both
parents that he is the gift they didn’t know they needed). While
Darrion’s parents did not ultimately stay together, both eventually
married other people, which resulted in an extended family: a pair of
stepparents and six sassy siblings between the new ‘set’ of
parents: one brother from mom’s side, and the remaining children
from dad’s side.
Darrion inherited his sense of logic and fairness from his bookish and
extremely practical mother; he inherited a sense of tranquility and reflection
from his laid-back and reserved father. It is from both parents, however,
that Darrion came to value resourcefulness; he balances all of those characteristics
to serve his clients’ needs and deliver quality results.
Early Life & Hobbies:
Darrion grew up in South Kansas City and has seen how some of life’s
most difficult challenges – including divorce, domestic violence,
alcoholism, accidents and infidelity – impact families. Darrion
gets it – he understands how confusing and chaotic life can be,
and is committed to helping his clients navigate through the mess to find
a way forward.
In addition to practicing law, Darrion enjoys the arts. If he is not at
a local live theater or musical performance, it is not uncommon to find
him spending a Saturday afternoon curled up on the sofa, sketching anything
he sees (with a bit of classical, blues or jazz music providing some background
inspiration). In addition to the arts, Darrion is an avid reader, getting
lost in everything from biographies to Harry Potter. When able, Darrion
loves to travel to new places, with his favorite place – so far
– being Athens, Greece.
Before joining the team at Reynolds Law Firm, Darrion owned and managed
a solo law practice, where he focused his casework on a mix of injury,
criminal, domestic, and employment cases. Immediately before launching
his solo practice, Darrion was an assistant prosecutor for Jackson County,
where he tried over a dozen bench and jury trials combined, and spent
time in the General Crimes Unit mainly prosecuting felony drug and property cases.
